What is Myofascial Release?
Also referred to Connective Tissue Massage, the use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual.
It is a gentle, manual technique for releasing, restrictions between fascia and other soft tissues of the body. The goal is to diminish or eliminate pain and increase range of motion.
Fascia is a network of tough connective tissue covering and connecting muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body.
Injuries, stress, trauma, inflammation and poor posture can cause restrictions to fascia. Manipulation of fascia during myofascial release allows connective tissue fibers to align in a more flexible, functional manner.
Generally this technique doesn't require lotion, but control-glide cream may be used in some circumstances.
Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
